The 2016 edition of the Cascades Open was played this past weekend (Mar 17-20) and as usual produced some exciting squash. David Guest (RA Centre) notched another tournament victory this season with a 3-2 victory in dramatic fashion over Shady Elkamhawy (Carleton) in the Division 1 final. After winning the 4th game and going ahead 10-3 in the 5th, Guest seemed to be on his way to a sure victory. Shady mounted a ferocious comeback brining the game to 9-10 while fighting off extreme fatigue and dizziness during much of the game. However that was all Shady had left in the tank as he collapsed on court and was forced to concede the match. Shady was assisted by paramedics and was able to walk off the court with some help after taking some time to recover.
The Division 2 final saw Rob Simpson (Cascades) grab a decisive victory 3-0 over Steve Corbell (OAC). The Division 3 title went to Chloe Wren (Sportheque) who defeated Matt Finucan (RA) while Cal Pritchard (Cascades) rounded out the winners by claiming the Division 4 title over Albert Carmanico (Carleton).
