The annual Smiths Falls squash tournament took place January 10 to 12, 2020, and attracted 30 women, men, and juniors. There was also a most entertaining exhibition match between Asser Ibrahim, an Egyptian newly arrived at Carleton University and currently ranked 4th in Ottawa, and Fernando Hernandez of Club Sportif MAA in Montreal and ranked 10 in Quebec.
Clark Johnston won the ‘A’ event over Scott Tindal 11-6, 11-7, 11-7. The ‘B’ event final was a Garrah family affair, with Chris beating Mark 6-11, 11-3, 11-3, 11-7. In the Mixed ‘C’ event, Ange Farr won the final 15-11, 15-10, 15-6 over Brian Dodo. Ilias Kosman took the Mixed ‘D’ event 15-9, 15-11, 15-8 over Kimberley Bremner.
In the Junior event, the six players produced some wonderfully competitive squash, with all the playoffs, for the 1 to 6 positions, going to 5 games (of the 15 games, 14 went to 15-11 or closer !). Not to be outdone, the Exhition players, Asser and Fernando, also played 5 exciting games in their match, won by Asser 9-11, 11-3, 8-11, 11-7, 11-6.
