WRENS RULE THE ROOST AT OKTOBER SQUASH FEST
The Oktober Squash Fest was held at La Sportheque October 20 – 22, with a field of over 50, including players from Joliette, Kingston, Montreal, Quebec City, Trenton, and Waterloo.
Five of the seven events were won by teenagers – a good reward for their coaches and a great sign for the future. In the Men’s A, Dominic Wren beat father Steve in the semi-finals, and went on to outlast the top seed, Maxym Leclair, 6-11, 11-6, 11-4, 10-12, 11-6 in the final. In the Women’s A/B, sister Chloe Wren beat Lisa Coates of Kingston and more than 30 years Chloe’s senior, in three close games.
In other events, Karim Michael of Montreal beat David Mann, of the OAC, in the B, while in the C, Ronnie Farrell of Carleton Univ. beat 14 year old Matthieu Shillington of the OAC in three close games,22-20, 15-12, 15-13, and in the D Frederik Bemeur-Thorson beat Luz Osorio. Later in the day Luz went on to beat Annie Durocher of CFB Trenton, in the Women’s C/D final. Victor Lussier of the home club won the Junior event.
