On short notice, the Gloucester Squash Club, of the Orleans Recreational Centre, stepped in to fill a void in the schedule, when another club was forced to postpone it’s event. On February 15 – 17, players from seven different clubs took part in A, B and C events, with competitors from the host club victorious in two finals.
In the “A” event, Stephane Dubytz, of Gloucester SC, held on to beat his younger opponent, Felix Scholberg, in three close games, 15-10, 15-12, 15-13, with a few less errors the difference. Nicolas Grenapin took 3rd spot with a crafty all round game, thus avenging his earlier defeat by Ryan Kennedy in their round-robin match.
Fifteen year-old Mathieu Shillington, of the host club, after trailing 5-10 in the 5th game, recovered splendidly against RA’S Marc Edmunds, to win a thriller 12-15, 16-14, 11-15, 15-5, 15-13 for the “B” title. Michael Reaume, of the OAC, was leading 15-7, 15-13, 9-8 in the “C” event when, unfortunately, his opponent, Carlos Vento of Gloucester SC, was forced to retire with an injury.
