Between August 23 and 25, 30 players, from 8 different clubs, vied for titles at the RA Centre. Last year’s runner-up, Stephane Lussier, won the “A” event 13-11, 11-9, 11-6, over club-mate Toby Murray. In the semis, the more experienced Stephane was tested by 17 year-old Jagroop Bhangoo, who has been training in Windsor, under past RA coach, David Morrish. After losing the third game, Stephane started lobbing and threw off Jagroop’s rhythm, to take the match 11-9, 11-5, 9-11, 11-5. Kabir Bhangoo won the “A” Plate.
Assad Khan won the “B” title 10-15, 15-8, 15-11, 15-9 over Nicolas Fradette, having also lost the first game of his semi with Jay Park of the Wallace SC (formerly known as Goodlife-Queensview), when the score was 9-15, 15-9, 15-12, 15-7. In the “C” 4 player round robin, Michael Reaume dominated, losing but one game, while Mario Ibrahim placed 2nd. The “D” title went to Myriam Carle, a member of the UOttawa team, returning from injury, who beat OAC’s Xavier Lamb in the playoff 15-10, 15-13, 15-5.
